Website
In 2022, I embarked on a website refresh for Hays County. The goals included an updated look and feel, improved navigation and an enhanced user experience.
Here is a sample of the new site; the home page is first and then one of the landing pages.

Below are samples of the Hays County website prior to the redesign:

While I did not design the City of Kyle’s website in-house, I managed the rebranding and upgrading of the exiting site. As the project manager, I oversaw the contractor, wrote copy, provided images, created new pages, edited existing page, deleted old files and collaborated with various departments to freshen up the content. I managed the entire site and ensured it contained current, useful information. I also conducted web usability testing to ensure an enhanced user experience.

Branding
Hays County
Over a two-year period, I increased the number of followers to the HaysCo Facebook page from 7,117 to more than 18,680. On Twitter, we went from 9,600 to 11,740. I also created the county’s first Instagram page.
My goal with branding for the county has been relevant, timely content in a friendly, approachable voice with visual appeal. In addition to overall branding for the organization, I created several short-run campaigns including an employee recruitment series, elections information, the Emergency Rental Assistance program and outreach in advance of a ballot bond for parks and open spaces.
Below are examples of branding using original social media content.
Note: a few examples are from Crime Stoppers, a volunteer-driven nonprofit for which I am on the executive board.

City of Kyle
Over the course of a bit more than four years, I was successful at building the city’s audience through a brand that utilizes a consistent voice and offers timely, authentic, useful information. The tagline “Get Connected to Your City” is used throughout the branding activities.
By incorporating photos, images and video into the content to visual tell the stories, I was able to increase audience engagement as well. Over four years, I increased Facebook followers by more than 400%.

I created the Instagram and YouTube accounts, as well as initiated the use of NextDoor. I also manage the Government Access Channel (KYLE10 on Spectrum Cable) and created more than 150 original videos that have run on that channel.
The branding for messaging is not limited to only happy, positive news or events. I built a successful program of rapidly offering important and/or emergency information. This involved quickly gathering accurate data from the appropriate sources, then distributing that information via social media, the website and news releases. I also managed the city’s emergency communications notification system, Everbridge (formerly CodeRed). When an event of an emergency nature occurs, such as a severe weather event, a water main break with a boil water notice, or a major accident causing significant disruption, the Everbridge system can be rapidly deployed to distribute important notices to affected residents.
